Become a dolphin research volunteer in north Wales.
This project gives the unique opportunity to volunteer on a research project that focuses on harbour porpoises and Risso’s dolphins. You may also get to see bottlenose dolphins, common dolphins as well as grey seals and common seals. This year’s survey runs from 14th September – 28th September 2019.

Since 1999 Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC) have been studying how whales, dolphins and porpoises (collectively known as cetaceans) use the waters around the Llŷn Peninsula, focussing on harbour porpoises and Risso’s dolphins. The research has shown how vitally important the waters around in this area, in particular Bardsey Sound, are for harbour porpoises for which it is a prime feeding location.
You will be trained by, and work side-by-side with, researchers who have been working on the project for a number of years. You will get the opportunity to take part in land-based and boat-based surveys collecting data on the number of cetaceans and their behaviour, as well as photo-identification studies.
